GET READY TO COUNT HERRING!

webmaster

Following a meeting with herring count coordinators from across the state to discuss COVID-friendly ways to count herring, Barnstable Clean Water Coalition (BCWC) is happy to announce that it will conduct herring monitoring at the Mill Pond and Middle Pond fish ladders in Marstons Mill April 1 - June 1.

The counting process will look a little different this year as no equipment (no thermometers, no clickers, no notebooks) will be used or shared amongst volunteers and data will be collected and sent to BCWC via an electronic data sheet. All you will need to count herring is your phone or tablet!

Interested participants should attend one of two Zoom training webinars in order to be updated on this year’s revised counting protocols. They will be held Tuesday, March 16th at noon and Thursday, March 18th at 5pm. If you plan to attend please click here to RSVP to BCWC Director of Operations, Heather Rockwell and she will send you a Zoom link. Feel free to contact Heather with any questions.
